What is Primary Care?
Primary Care is the continuous, comprehensive, and preventive medical
care a patient receives upon first contact with the health care system,
before referral elsewhere within the system.
What health care professionals are Primary Care Practitioners?
Primary care is delivered by physicians (MDs or DOs): family or
internal medicine physicians, pediatricians, and occasionally,
gynecologists. In the United States, physician assistants (PAs) and
nurse practitioners (NPs) who care for patients in a primary care
practice setting, are also considered primary care practitioners.
